February 26, Rockies Spring Training Game 6
Scrolling through Rockies Bluesky accounts, Renee Dechert posted, "Patrick Saunders wrote in a column this morning that “barring a significant setback,” he expects Chase Dollander to start the season in the Rockies rotation.
That friends makes today's starter Ryan Feltner number 4 on the Rockies rotation, if everyone is healthy. Seems logical to give him the Philadelphia game in Philly over the rookie. Feltner gave up 2 runs on 3 hits after watching his offense collect a hat-trick of strikeouts.
Nick Martini hit a homer to put the Rockies on the board in the top of the second. An underwhelming thus far Adael Amador, with 2-on and 2-out, hit his first 2-bagger of spring training putting the Rockies ahead. Fittingly, Feltner's second inning of work was a wonderful 3-up, 3-down effort.
Anthony Molina came on in the third to pitch for the Rox. He struggled his first appearance giving up 3-runs so seeing him go through the inning only giving up a walk was nice. He'd watch Owen Miller expand the Rockies lead to 4-2 before coming out for his second inning of work. A leadoff double would be cashed in by former Rox "legend" Harold Castro.
Make it a double! Nick Martini hits his second home run of the game. I wish I knew more about the drink that is a Martini to come up with more clever to me play on words.
The Prince of Panama Justin Lawrence looked like someone making his spring debut despite this being his second outing. 2023 sweeper Lawrence was a reason to watch the Rockies. MLB.com's Thomas Harding reported that Lawrence is adjusting his grip on the sweeper trying to regain its once near mythical status. I wish to be a believer in Mr. Lawrence.
Jake Bird walked his second batter in two outings and plunked another but put a zero up on the scoreboard. Seth Halvorsen, whose 12 1/3 innings last August/September have many Rockies fans excited, faced the minimum in his inning.
Keston Hiura drove home Austin Nola in the top of the 8th inning. With all due respect to both players, I hope I never type that sentence again.
Back to the topic of pitchers that had impressive August/September callup, Luis Peralta came in to pitch the 8th inning. He gave up as many runs on this day as he did his entire 2024 callup (2). Jaden Hill came on for the save retiring the side in order and completely putting in the rear view his abysmal opening performance.
Not-so-fun fun fact: The collection of outfielders - Zac Veen, Nolan Jones, Yanquiel Fernandez, Jordan Beck, Cole Carrigg went 0-14 with 6 strikeouts.
