February 22, Game 2 of Spring Training
Reminder baseball fans, scores do not matter in spring training.
TOP 1: Gabriel Hughes, the Rockies 1st round pick in 2022, pitching his first game since Tommy John Surgery in 2023: 3up-3down!
BOTTOM 1: Thairo Estrada grounds out in his first Rockies at-bat which is better than striking out.
T2: A walk would be the only blemish on Hughes' outing today and if that doesn't make you happy then go touch grass.
B2: Nick Martini's first at-bat as a Rockie he gets hit by a pitch. He gets shaken but not stirred. There, that joke is out of the way now.
T3: If Diego Castillo can turn the clock the back to his Tampa Bay Rays days, he will allow a youngster more time to season in the minors cause we all know Buddy Black prefers experience over youth until he is forced to use youth and this won't be the last time you read that rant this season.
B3: Drew Romo, part of the hat-trick of catchers vying for the backup spot draws a walk. He needs his offense to win the spot while his competition Hunter Goodman needs his defense to shine to win and Austin Nola just has to keep reminding Buddy that he is old and experienced.
T4:Angel Chivilli keeps the no-hitter alive!
B4: Yanquiel Fernandez walks and Zac Veen homers accidentally "bat flipping". This legitimately could happen at Coors Field this summer and that is exciting.
T5: Evan Justice comes in to pitch. The no-hitter and the shutout are no more. 3 runs score on a sacrifice fly, it was gross.
B5: Estrada singles and is replaced by Aaron Schunk which is ironic cause in real life the opposite happened.Tovar walks and Toglia hits a homer. Homers are more fun with runners on base.
T6: Zach Agnos fares well on the mound.
B6: "Depth signings" Owen Miller and Nola collect singles. If all goes well these two players are not on the scorecard in a game at Coors this summer. 22-year-old Cole Carrigg drives them in with a double.
T7: Jefry Yan, the young pitcher most known for his strikeout celebrations, disappointingly does not strike anyone out.
B7: Sterlin Thompson, whom I'm heavily rooting for, strikes out with 2-on & 1-out.
T8: Michael Prosecky collects the strikeouts we wanted to see Yan get.
B8: Adael Amador, after looking good in the opener, strikes out.
T9: An Owen Miller-Amador-Keston Hiura double play. That may happen this summer in Colorado. I hope not.
