February 25, Rockies Spring Training Game 5

An exaggeratory statement that is not an exaggeration, starting pitcher German Marquez is the linchpin to this team this season. Nevermind the Kris Bryant contract, put aside the hometown hero stuff Kyle Freeland gets, even more important than the budding cornerstones Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar, Marquez needs to be the ace of the staff. He needs to be healthy, he needs to be better than anyone on that has walked onto the Rockies mound the past seasons. And he probably needs to be traded at the trade deadline but the Rockies won't because they don't do that.

Marquez pitched the first two innings of the game on Tuesday with two walks being the only blemish on his line. Good starting point.

Austin Gomber pitched the next two innings for the Rockies. After giving up a single to the first batter he faced, Gomber retired the next 6 batters in order picking up three strikeouts along the way.

On the topic of Kris Bryant:

2025 starters written in ink on the gamecard are Doyle and Ryan McMahon who both went 0-3. Tovar and Thairo Estrada both went 2-3

Veteran Diego Castillo gave up his first run of spring training. Angel Chivilli pitched his second scoreless inning of young exhibition season. Jefry Yan was an exhibition.

Late game replacements Hunter Goodman, Yanquiel Fernandez, Ryan Ritter, Kyle Karros, and Cole Carrigg went 8-9 with 2 walks and 8 RBI. The downer is Adeael Amador going 0-2.

Pitcher Evan Justice bounced back nicely from a poor opening outing allowing only a single before striking out the side. Tommy Doyle gave up the dreaded leadoff walk, which became dreaded when with two outs the ball would be hit out of the park.

The final score was two touchdowns against a field goal. Enjoy being the touchdown!
