February 27, Colorado Rockies Spring Training Game 7

Is The Dark Knight the same without The Joker? The Los Angeles Dodgers play the role of antagonist better than anyone has in the history of the MLB. How good of a heel team are they? A 2-0 win in February by the Colorado Rockies will get referenced during the regular season!

Bradley Blalock got his second start of spring training once again pitching two scoreless innings. Blalock only needed 20 pitches in his first outing against Arizona, he needed 50 to work through the Dodgers which included striking out the last three batters he faced.

Gabriel Hughes' return from Tommy John was as the starting pitcher, today he came in relief. In today's second inning of work, after walking  leadoff batter Tommy Edman, Hughes would strikeout the side. With his pitch count low, he would come back in to start the 5th giving up a single and striking out Mookie Betts.

Ryan Rolison, who was the Rockies first round draft pick 4 years before Hughes, came on to get the final two outs. In his previous outing, Rolison pitched two clean innings against the Athletics. In his first spring training since 2022, there is a sentimental vote for him to be re-added to the Rockies 40-man roster.

The Rockies offense found the scoreboard in the bottom of the 5th. A feat they failed to do so in the second inning when Thairo Estrada (single), Michael Toglia (walk) and Nolan Jones (walk) loaded the bases with 1-out. Success would come when Ezequiel Tovar hit his third double of the spring to bring home Brenton Doyle who had a double of his own.

Zach Agnos, whose moustache reminds us of a year'ish of Tony Wolters' "don't dash on the stache" fame, made his third appearance of the spring in the sixth. Through three innings of work thus far, the prefect game stays in tact.

Jimmy Herget made it back-to-back appearances pitching 3-up, 3-down inning. Tyler Kinley followed suit.

A streak begins at three and Kyle Karros' hit streak hit three in the bottom of the 7th. A pinch-hitting Hunter Goodman would extend his hitting streak to 4 games and extend the Rockies lead to 2-0. The Rockies would leave the bases loaded when Kyle Farmer grounded out to short.

Victor Vodnik, who gave up a run in his first appearance, only gave a 2-out single in this appearance.

Past Brenton Doyle, the Rockies outfielders were once again shutout. The quadrant of Nolan Jones, Sam Hilliard, Sean Bouchard and Zac Veen combined to go 0-7 with a walk and 4k.
